Started with about 45 minutes of sketching, ending up with what you see here. Figuring out the pose and getting all my reference in front of me. Then I inked it with a 0.5 marker and erased away the sketchy bits. I was doing this on watercolour paper so I could bring in my watercolour pencils - have to start lightly with the base highlight colours, then when everything is figured out bringing in the mid-tones and some shadow (a little black goes a LONG way) and bringing in just a bit of water to smooth the colours together and get rind of the white "noise" of the paper (looks OK in person but a scan usually picks up on the contrast too much), then a final pass to fill in / even out the colours and some final touches with a brush-pen to keep the lines popping out and make sure the important details read (the thin lines from the fine-tip marker kinda got lost against the deep blue).
I really like how this one turned out!
